New HP Latex Consumables - What You Need to Know

Firmware Update Required Before Use

With the release of the new HP Latex 730 and 830 Series, HP has introduced a fresh line of improved consumables. The good news is these will also be compatible with existing HP Latex 630 / 700 / 800 Series Printers, with older versions being phased out.

Before you rush to install them, there’s one very important step:

👉 Make sure your printer is updated with the latest firmware.

Without this update, your printer won’t recognise the new consumables, which could lead to errors or downtime.

🆕 So, what's New?

Let’s take a quick look at the new consumables available:

⚙️ Universal Printhead: One Head, Multiple Uses

The HP 836 Universal Latex Printhead is a major step forward in simplifying maintenance. This single printhead replaces:

  • Black / Cyan

  • Magenta / Yellow

  • Light Cyan / Light Magenta

  • Overcoat

👉 The Optimizer and White printheads remain unchanged.

Once the firmware update is complete, the 836 Universal Printhead can be inserted into any of the above positions. The printer will automatically detect its function and calibrate accordingly.

♻️ More Sustainable Maintenance Cartridges

The new 833 and 838 Maintenance Cartridges are smarter and greener.

Previously:

  • Once the cartridge filled with ink, the whole unit had to be discarded. Even if the cloth wiper still had life left in it.

Now:

  • The Ink Collection Unit is replaceable, meaning the main Maintenance Cartridge can be reused.

  • You’ll receive 1 Ink Collection Unit with each Maintenance Cartridge.

  • Replacement kits (sold separately) help you extend cartridge life by around 50%.

  • The used ink can now be removed and disposed of separately, making the system more cost-effective and recyclable.

This means less waste and better value for print operators.

As HP put it: “The innovative design allows customers to separately dispose of used ink, enabling proper waste disposal and full cartridge recyclability via HP Planet Partners.”

🛠️ Firmware First: Your Essential First Step

Identify your printer:

Latex 630 / 630 W → Minimum firmware of sunspot_release_6.27.1.10-202503220141 or newer.

Latex 700 / 700 W / 800 / 800 W / 730 / 830 → Minimum PLS_60_25_21.1 or newer.

Download the firmware:

Go to HP’s official support page for your Printer model.

Enter your serial or model number to explore available firmware updates.

Install via USB stick or EWS (Embedded Web Server):

Copy the .fmw file to a FAT32 USB drive, connect it to the rear USB port, then follow on-screen prompts.

Alternatively, upload the .fmw file through the printer’s Embedded Web Server under About Printer → Manual Firmware Update.

Verify firmware version on the printer:

Check via front panel or EWS to confirm the update is completed and correct.

Install new consumables:

You can now insert the HP 833/838 Maintenance Cartridge and the HP 836 Universal Printhead. The printer should recognise them properly.

This update ensures:

  • Your printer recognises the new part numbers.

  • New printheads slot in seamlessly.

  • Your workflow continues with zero disruption.
